If this is your first one, it is not one event. It is two, and they are very different. Nobody tells foreign brides this until the week before.
At the family home, traditional, usually in áo dài, and it starts early. Five or six in the morning is normal because the hour is chosen to be auspicious. The room is small, the light is warm, and there are a lot of relatives and a lot of photographs at close range. The makeup has to look correct in a photo taken from one metre away.
A hotel or restaurant ballroom, western-style, a different dress and a different look. Stage lighting, a long night, hundreds of guests. Kay comes back between the two events to change the look completely — this is not a touch-up, it is a second face for a second occasion.
Because it is two full applications separated by eight hours, plus re-touching on the spot through both, plus the whole day held on the calendar. The ancestral-ceremony-only tier exists for couples who are genuinely not having an evening reception. If there is a reception, it falls under the full day.
Mothers, bridesmaids, sisters, and the tea-ceremony tray bearers — the young relatives who carry the gift trays in the morning. They all appear in the same photographs as you. Tell Kay the headcount in advance so she brings assistants and nobody is waiting in a queue at five in the morning.

October through February, plus any date a family has chosen as auspicious. Book two to four months out. Good dates go first and they go early.
Four to six weeks is usually enough. Weekdays are often open at shorter notice.
Three to six weeks before the wedding. Close enough that your skin is in its wedding condition, far enough that there is time to change your mind.
